Candy Bar Advice

We are considering a candy bar for the wedding. R is addicted to candy and we thought it would be a fun touch. One of the bridesmaids offered to help and I asked if she would do research on cost and containers and all that kind of fun stuff.

She is doing great work, but I figured I'd ask for input or wisdom from any of you that might know about cheap places for candy, or how much to buy, etc, etc, etc.

One reception I attended had small little bags to put the candy in and that seemed to help control portions. Another place almost all the candy was gone before the food was served and I'm not sure that is such a great idea either. I thot I had emailed J with the catalog and ideas from Oriental Trading Co. And some other info re: containers @ Gottschalks. We can talk more this weekend. xoxoxox mom

I'm not sure how I came across your blog but I'm glad that I did because if I had this to do over again, I'd make it better!! Do you have a Winco store near you? Cheap bulk candy! Also, as pretty as it is, go sparingly or not at all with brand names like jelly belly etc., JB's are 2-3 times the cost of generic candy. You could easily spend $100 just to fill one jar with JB's. Also, when I did it for a party, I bought clear goody bags. They weren't deep but fairly long. Maybe 8-10 inches. People stuffed them full and then options were limited near the end. I would get a short bag or cut them down. Have fun!
